An adult bed bug is brown, oval shaped and has a pair of front wings, but doesn’t fly. Microscopic hairs cover its body. It can grow to 4-5mm long. It has an appetite for blood and feeds off humans. Like a mosquito, bed bugs are attracted to their hosts by carbon dioxide. In warm conditions, the adult bug will try and feed every 5-10 days but it can survive 5 months without blood. Under cold conditions it can survive over 1 year without feeding.
If a person gets bitten it can subside without any treatment in approximately a week.
